Hostpapa: Is It the Ideal Hosting Service?

by miso on September 10, 2012

Company Introduction: HostPapa is a Canadian company with head office located in Toronto. HostPapa is providing reliable hosting solutions to clients seeking shared hosting service. The company is increasingly promoting green hosting services everywhere claiming that it runs servers on renewable wind & solar energy. HostPapa is a BBB certified business with an A ranking. I really like the big daddy logo of the company. Let us have a look at the detailed review herein:

Established: No data is available for when the company came into existence.

Services: Till date, the company is providing only shared hosting solutions priced at $3.95 per month.

Packages: There is no variety of packages to offer, which I did not really admire. It is only providing shared hosting services with unlimited bandwidth, disk space and MySQL databases. There are 3 pricing plans. If you sign up for 1 year, you have to pay $7.95 per month. Similarly, if you sign up for 2 or 3 year service, you have to pay $6.95 or $5.95 respectively. Due to the fierce competition in the website hosting industry, HostPapa has reduced its 3 year pricing plan from $5.95 to $3.95 per month.

Control Panel: HostPapa offers Linux based cPanel for effective management of websites with easy one-click installation features.

Features: There are several features offered by this company and here are these listed below:

  • $50 Facebook marketing credit
  • $100 Google AdWords credit
  • $25 bing/Yahoo & Miva Marketing credits
  • One-click CMS integration
  • Joomla!, WordPress, Drupal, Magento
  • SohoLaunch Website Builder for amateur webmasters
  • 99% server uptime

For ecommerce websites, HostPapa is offering shared SSL certificates so that you can conduct online business with minimum hassles. Get to build your own website in just a few minutes without having any knowledge of HTML through the use of SohoLaunch Website Builder.

Customer Support: Although there had been only 9 complaints made in the last 3 years, there is still a high level of customer dissatisfaction. The customer support services are not very professional. HostPapa needs to improve on this aspect of their business.

Pros:

  • Linux based cPanel
  • Website building tools
  • Website traffic monitoring tools
  • SSL certificates

Cons:

  • Poor customer services
  • Only targeting private individuals

My personal review: If you are a private individual wanting to start your own website or blog, HostPapa is a reliable solution for you. However as your site grows, there is no way to further expand disk space and bandwidths. My personal observation recommends anyone looking for cheap shared hosting services.
